You Know What about Olympic Medal?

Olympic medal is a form of Olympic motivation method that reward athletes with medals. It is provided by the organization committee of each Olympic Games, but is owned by the International Olympic Committee and awarded by the International Olympic Committee to the winner athletes.

History

Since the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, various kinds of awards for the Olympic Games, especially medals, have undergone many changes.

Prior to the formal formulation of the 1978 Olympic Games, no specific regulations were made on the production of medals. According to the Olympic regulations formulated in 1978, the diameter of the Olympic gold medals,Olympic silver medals and Olympic bronze medals shall not be less than 60 mm and the thickness shall not be less than 3 mm. The gold and silver medals shall be made of silver with a purity of 92.5%, and the gold medal shall be plated at least 6 grams of gold.

The design and production of Olympic medals have always been the responsibility of the organizing committee of the host city, and the International Olympic Committee and the National Olympic Committee are not involved the process.

When the first modern Olympic Games were held in Greece in 1896, only the first and second winners won the Olympic medal. The winner won a silver medal and the runner-up won a bronze medal. In addition, winners were awarded a crown made of olive branches, the runner-ups were awarded a crown of the laurel branches. The medals for this Olympic Games are 50 mm in diameter.

The 1900 Paris Olympics is the only Olympics that athletes have not been awarded medals. The prizes for the champions are valuable works of art. After 1900, the medals of the Olympic Games were designed and produced by the organizing committee in different shapes.

In 1909, a regulation was passed to standardize the design of the front of the sport medal of honor. The diameter of the medal is changed from 30 mm (1908 London) to 60 mm (Antwerp, 1920).

In 1928,a Italian artist Giuseppe Cassio Olli designed a symbolization of victory for the Olympic medal.

Since 1972, Cassioli's design has been used for the front of the medal, while the back is designed by the organizing committee.

The medals for the 1984 Summer Olympics used the medal made by Los Angeles. The medal pattern has been in use even since.

Standard

The both sides of medals from 1928 to 1968 were designed by the artist Du Sturm, who was hired by Cassie committee, the medal’s diameter was 60 mm and thickness was 4 mm. The champion's gold medal contained 6.5 grams of 24K gold. The medals were placed in a small blue velvet box to prevent them from damage.

In addition to awarding medals to the winning players, other rewards for the players have changed and evolved over time. For example, in the 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics, in addition to the usual medals, the organizing committee followed the ancient Roman way, awarding the champions a crown of eucalyptus leaves, and awarding a small oak tree to them. They can plant them wherever they liked.
